What are the differences between Violins and Fiddles? Styles, attitudes, etc?
Violin is the general name, and Fiddle is called when you play Violin the Fiddling way.
Good Violinists can play Fiddle well, but Fiddlers play only joyfull and fast pace country and folk musics.
Traditionally, Fiddlers do not take Violin lesson from teachers. They learn to play fiddle from their villagers.
Nowaday, Fiddlers are Violinists who play Fiddle musics, and Fiddlers take lesson from good violin teachers. I am a violinist, and after nearly a decade in the US, I started to play Fiddle. I play Fiddle for people who ask for Fiddle musics, for I having no reason not to play Fiddle musics. Please, go to YouTube and search for "New England Fiddle Contest" to see for yourself.
