Hi,

I'm a student and I want to learn the violin, though being a student I don't have a large budget. I have wanted to learn for some time, and my parents have finally decided to buy me an instrument for my 21st. However they are concerned I will get bored of playing and that as a beginner listening to me play will be rather painful.

I thought it might be a good idea to get an electric violin so I can practice quietly. However I want one that sounds very similar to an acoustic violin. Due to their concerns I will swiftly grow tired of the violin I don't have a very big budget, though its a bit bigger than my student budget.

I was wondering if anyone could suggest a good electric violin for a beginner, at a relatively low
cost. My price range is 50-200 pounds, about 150 preferable.

Is it a good idea to start learning on an electric violin, or is it better to start on an acoustic? To be honest I am more interested in learning the acoustic, but I don't want to upset the neighbors/family/house mates.

I have considered splitting my budget and asking for a cheap acoustic violin to take to lessons and for when I am on my own, and getting a cheaper electric violin as well. However I want an instrument of a fair quality and which I can keep for a while. I am quite serious about wanting to play, I have been interested since I was five.

Feedback much appreciated!
