A violin "outfit" means that it comes with a bow, a case, and a violin. It's ready for playing.

Typically, luthiers will sell each separately so that people can match their personal preference with what they're buying.

Alexis Barton gave a correct answer. For beginning violinist, an outfit might be the most affordable and best option. If you are buying a less expensive violin, than a less expensive case might just do the trick.

However, if you are spending a significant amount of money on a violin it is usually sold alone so you can also put your own taste, preference, and amount of money into the case and bow you want.

Here is an excellent website that addresses this very thing in greater detail.

It is worth finding out specifically what kind of bow, and what kind of case comes with the violin. Some are better than others, and some you are really getting a better deal with. Others are so cheap you may have to spend the money replacing anyways.
