Yeah, I was talking to my teacher about this an hour ago. You need to put more pressure on the bow with your index finger, not enough to make it scratchy, but a little bit more than what you are using.

Hi Ooobookoo

This is such a common thing amongst violinists, so don't worry - it's a very easy problem to fix!

The bow bounces because there is tension in your arm/hand/bow hold, regardless of how much weight you have on the string.

This exercise will fix it:
1) With an extremely slow bow, play as loud and as close to the bridge as possible, making sure you have a correct bow hold.
2) A correct bow hold includes your thumb and pinkie joints are bent and not stiff.
3) See how many seconds you can make the loud sound for, saving as much bow as possible.

Then, relax your arm and try the note/passage again, you should feel very relaxed, hopefully!

Good luck,
Amy

You might need to loosen the bow a little bit. Many young violinists (including myself!) tend to tighten the bow a little bit too much.
