I have found a violin in my Mothers attic with the name
The Stainer Manufacturing company on the label
does anyone know anything about this company ?

Some Stainer violins are worth money. I`ve had one passed down.

I have a violin with no label and it supposedly a JACOBUS STAINER violin like for instance:

Jacob Stainer (Absam, Austria, c. 1617-83)--Relatively broad lower back, higher arching of the belly than the back, beautifully carved heads of lions and varnish ranging in color from amber to orange-red. This description desctrbes my violin perfectly from the Smithsonian website but I dont if it is made by him or not. Does anybody know of a website or something that I can find this info.

I know some Stainer violins are worth money, but Jacobus Stainer violins are different, mine might be a copy, but I have to know for sure.

I don`t really Know, but if it wAS IN YOUR ATTIC, IT Must be old, which means it is worth a lot of money! Are you gonna take lessons, and learn to play it? I`ll tell you, its very fun and easy to make it sing, if you know how! (: Be happy, `cause you are lucky. 99.9999999999999999999% of violinists have to buy their violins, at very expensive prices!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No I won`t actualy be learning to play Violin ( I play guitar ) but my Son has been taking lessons at school so it will do for him when he gets older as it is too big for him at the moment.
From what info i can get off the intenet it isn`t that old ( about 1900 ) and although they share the same name their is no conection with Jacobus stainer ( damn! ) and if it was a Statavarious do you think I`d be sat here typing..... no I`d be sailing around the Bahamas ha ha

1. Yes I figured that, but where does it say Stainer at, on the violin or in it?
2. Does it say where it`s made?
3. Does it say what year it`s made?
4. Does it have the word Stainer stamped on the upper back side of the main hollow body of the violin?

I hope this helps, oh and when you see a Stainer violin, it`s a copy to the actual Jacobus Stainer violin. The actual real Jacobus Stainer violin is worth more than you make in a year or two.

The label inside the violin says

it was made by Thomas Hewitt around 1900

Yes but what does it say inside exactly. Are you sure it says made by Thomas HewItt or is it HewEtt. I`ve seen that Thomas Hewett with an e made Banjos and fixed instruments like the violin in the 1900`s. Does it say inside that he made it or repaired it in the 1900`s?

It doesn`t say who made it it just has a label inside with that info on it. I assumed that it was made by Thomas Hewett after doing some research about the company and yes he was a banjo maker but I did read somewhere that he also made violins.

Red violin, labeled "The Stainer Manufacturing Company, London" $895.00. I guess you have a match, but that doesn`t mean your violin is worth $900, it could be worth more but $900 does sound like the right price range.

all i know is its definetly not one of the original :O

My grandmother (84 yrs old) has a violin handed down from her Uncle. It is in the original wood case and the label inside says "copy of Jacobus Stainer 1865. Germany" Any ideas where I can find info on the manufacturer and appraisal?
