Jake, i started to play the flute at 15 (im 17 currently). and my teacher believes i can succeed no matter what happens. She says that i am the best flautist in the school and what? i only started!!

All i can say is, eventho im not a string player, anyone can suceed if you are really into your intrument and you practise it often. thats what i did.

Dont listen to your parents or anyone else. Believe in yourself.

Hi. I don`t think 14 is too old. I`m in my 40`s and I`m going to give it a go. Good luck.

Well I just had to chime in with my 2 cents worth. I played for 6 years in grade school and middle school then gave up the violin. (Bad Mistake) I have been telling my wife that I want to pick it up again since I returned from Iraq. Funny how a war will make you get to doing the things you want to do. Anyway, she bought me a violin for my birthday and I am off to the local music store to schedule some training time. AWESOME!!!!

Try 50. I`ve been playing for a year now, and I really enjoy it. I think I have to work a little harder at it just because I don`t learn as fast as I used to, but I get a real kick out of it when my kids or husband says, hey, I recognize that, or hey, that sounds good.

I`m interested that this thread was started by "Jake" in October of 2002. So..... what happened, Jake? Are you still around? Do you play fiddle now? I hope so!!! ANY age is the time to start playing music.. and having fun with it! I teach a lot of adult beginning fiddle workshops and love seeing folks of all ages learning to fiddle. Message to everyone... go for it!
Happy Fiddling
