I am not quite sure why, but I put tape on my violin and the first and last strings are working fine, but the middle two seem to go high. I think it is because of the distance between the strings and the fingerboard, when I press one down, the strings in the middle stretch more because they are further away from the fingerboard than the first and last strings. Is this normal for a violin? If not, is there anything I can do about it? Thank you for your time.

Using a chromatic tuner, I put tape on my violin, to help with my fingering. I used the g string and the e string to figure out where to put the tape, because the are on the sides. In the end, the g and e strings sounded fine when I played them on the tape marks, but the middle two went sharp, I think it might be because the middle two are further away from the fingerboard.

I still don't really understand.
If the middle strings are higher above the finger board than the G & E strings the bridge or the fingerboard are the wrong shape. This needs attention from an expert to correct. My suggestion is first to find a violin teacher (or good player) or repairer who can examine your instrument & discuss the problem with you. It is much easier to solve these problems in person than making guesses & suggestions on forum posts.

Good luck.
