alright now...i just bought a cheapo violin off ebay and it should be arriving in the mail on wednesday...but i was just curious, how easy is the violin really? i mean, i`ve been playing piano for about 14 years, guitar for about 7, and drums for about 2, and i taught myself each one of them. unfortunately i never learned how to read notes because i would just play everything by ear, but how easy do u think it would be for me to teach myself to play the violin? i`ve heard that is next to impossible...especially when it comes to technique like how to hold it and whatnot.

but anyway, lemme know what you guys think, i would appreciate any comments on my situation! thanx!

I`ve been teaching myself how to play the violin, but I also play the cello which makes it a lot easier.

1. Watch someone that is playing the violin
2. Get a book that will show you how to play the violin along with scales in it with easy music.
3. Bow in the right hand (rosin on the bow for the bow to make sound), instrument between the left shoulder and chin and left hand to make the fingerings.
4. Always have the strings in tune
5. Music in treble clef.
6. Strings from highest pitch to lowest (E A D G). You could play the violin parts on the piano.

The highest to the lowest strings are the E A D G. The open E is between the first and second line, the open A is between the third and forth line and the open D is under the fifth line. The lowest note on the piece of sheet music is the G.

Also with a fingering of (123)
1. index
2. Middle
3. forth finger

Well, since you already got the hang of music theroy, it will be a tinc easyer! Though the violin is very diffucult to play because you have to worry about 22 things at once and there are no keys to tell you where the note on the string is but you will enjoy it and just keep working on it because even Nicolo Paganini, the greatest violinist ever was not perfect at the violin. Basicily on the violin you will always have things to improve!

By the way ,did I tell you that Paganini played the gutair? So then you can compose for piano, gutair and violin

I totally agree with you ILOVEPAGANINI. In my strings class, I am the most experienced and advanced student. When ever we have playing quizzes, everyone says I`ll do good but even I am not perfect. I always improve my self. Concentrating on 22 things is difficult at times and requires someone that can process information like so, even at times its more that 22 things at once. When I`ll played the All-State piece I had many things to worry about.

Oh and the new violinist person, if you want to entertain yourself and have fun playing it then no your not to old. In fact my instructor told me that no one is too old to start a instrument. Although it is better to start at a younger age, but what the heck! No one`s to old to start! Good Luck.
