Ah, so you`re not the same person (aged 14) that was on fiddleforum saying that you got the maggini violin and a cello from ebay?

What is your full name? If you`re being paid a full time wage for playing at the age of 14 we must surely all have heard of you. The only people who do that sort of thing are child protegies (and, with respect, such people usually have VERY expensive instruments loaned to them by some commercial enterprise or other, you wouldn`t need to be looking for violins on ebay)

There are many professionals who are young. My payment depends on how many rehersals and how many concerts we play. I know better than to give my full name out on the internet, if you want to discuss this further please IM me on AIM or email me.

Rebecca, I`ve got to say you are being a little hard to believe. Yes this is the internet, but if you are a child prodigy your name should already be all over the place. I am also finding it hard to believe that as a 14 year old prodigy you have time to buy old violins and fix them. Also, ebay? Something like a Maggini being sold on ebay would have been in violin news already, much like like lottery winners are often all over the news.

You dont have to believe me if you dont want to, I know whats true. Just because I found a great old violin ond you didnt dosent mean you have to accuse me of lying. I am 14 years old, I have been a professional violinist for a year and I play with a philharmonic, a church orchestra and in a duo called Duo Ficelle with a cellist named Barbara. I am done dealing with you people, if you want to discuss this further feel free to email me or IM me.I will not be answering to any more poasts on this forum. Dont be jealous because I may play violin better than you. Now if you will excuse me, I have a concert to practice for such as the library gig we have coming up. Give this link a try and you will see me and Barbara on there. http://www.cclib.org/main.htm

Professional orchestra?    15:29 on Tuesday, November 16, 2004

Well, that`s clearly an orchestra which is of the very good amateur variety. I play in one like that. The very fact that it has amateur players, according to

http://www.sptimes.com/2004/02/13/Citrus/Organist_is_highlight.shtml

Is a clear indication that it is not a professional orchestra.

Isn`t the truth of it, Rebecca, that you are in fact still at school, and that you belong to this orchestra which meets outside school hours? Nothing wrong with that, you know: I doubt if there is anyone in the world under 21 or so who is a member of a PROFESSIONAL orchestra. A professional orchestra is one where you get paid a regular salary, where there are scores of candidates for every single vacancy, all of whom are music college graduates.

Now, unless you are prepared to tell us who did the appraisal on your violin (his name, not just "someone in New York"), you will no doubt excuse us if we all assume that the violin is as much a maggini as you are a professional. Again, there`s nothing wrong with that. Clearly it is a good violin and clearly you are very happy with it, and that is what matters.

Well, I don`t believe you. The article itself says it is an orchestra that takes amateur players. There are presumably laws in the US about child labour, which is what it would be in law if they paid you a salary to play. You would be out doing concerts several nights a week till all hours, you would have had to fight off top music college graduates in the audtion, and frankly you would not have got an audition at 14, however good you might be, because a child of 14 is under the age where she could be employed. "PROFESSIONAL" does not mean that somebody gives you a few dollars occasionally.

So, either you don`t really understand what "professional" means, or you are trying to make yourself out to be something you are not. I hope it is the former.
