they sell about $15 and its just a like a circular plastic thing, you place it beneath the bridge and it allegely suppresses or rids the wolf tone lol. i don`t want some plastic crap marring my violin .

I don`t play, but I inherited a beautiful violin from my father. Came with no papers- has an Alfred Vidoudez label in it but is not a Strad copy- looks more like a Maggini copy, and is bigger like a Maggini copy. Weird thing is that the case is also labelled Vidoudez, and the violin fits the case perfectly (but the case was acquired separately by my dad!) - Does this make sense? I am going to see if the Smithsonian or Christie`s will look at it. I live in DC and the top guy here couldn`t make a conclusion.

Chech out this site. Apparently someone is selling another "real" Maggini on ebay. Now what are the chances of two Magginis being sold on ebay in this time span? Clearly this one and yours are both copies. Now stop acting like you are even that good, because your record is not that impressive. Just deal with the fact that you are a better than average violinist with a Maggini copy.

That is obv. a fake... it looks brand new. How would you know about my violin or record. You dont know me, you have never seen my violin and you have never heard me play. My goodness, Rebecca, you are touchy about your genuine Maggini (which has one too many turns on the scroll) and your professional status (so professional that you are trying to go to a conservatoire ... apparently it has escaped your attention that people go to conservatoires BEFORE becoming professional players and that only the best conservatoire graduates end up as professionbal players anyway)

she`s 14, we were all like that when we were teenagers. there`s no doubt she`ll be a mature, calm, and humble person in 1 or 2 years. let`s forgive her for now and be nice CHRISTMAS IS COMING

Yeah man, let`s be nice to her. Teenagers have very great dreams. Even at my age (i`m already 26), i still dream of being a professional violinist quite frequently, though i know its already not that possible, i`m not even half as good as someone half my age. But for someone at 14, there is still a chance.

guys... you really dont have to believe me if you dont want to I DONT CARE. I know that I am professional homeschooled violinist who plays in a philharmonic, gets paid and teaches. Alright? Just cause you weret a good violinist at 14 dosent mean you have to take it out on me. Im not going to poast on this forum anymore cause you guys just kinda ruined it.

Of course, i weren`t as good a violinist when i was 14 cause i haven`t even started playing at 14. Just learnt the violin 3 years ago, at the age of 23.

I guess all these bitter arguments stem from different understanding of the term "professional". To Liz, a "professional" violinist is one who has undergone a rigorous undergraduate programme in a music conservatoire which leads to a Degree in violin performance, or a violinist who is being employed by a professional orchestra and is paid a monthly salary, or a violinist who has a recording contract with some records company. To Rebecca, a "professional" violinist is someone who has attained a high standard of violin technique and is thus qualified to be teaching violin; or is someone who is paid to perform on an ad hoc or rather regular basis. So therefore, Rebecca is also a professional in her own rights.

Just as i am, i bring my violin to the streets to perform, and people who loves my music, would put money in my container, sometimes people would approach me to perform in their birthday or christmas parties. In that sense, i`m also paid to play the violin. If my definition of a professional is someone who is paid to play the violin, then nobody should fault me for calling myself a professional.
