I played the piano for 8 years when I was 5-13 ys old. Now, as an adult, I borrowed a violin form a friend and fell in love with it... After looking around very much, I came to the conclusion that the above store had the best deal. Of course I was a bit nervous buying it (an elida serende) over the Internet but I got overwhelmed by the instrument. Beautiful, and easy to play. Good quality. I was delighted! My goal is not to be a professional violinist, but to play with some other amateurs for fun. After 3 weeks of practise on my friend`s violin, I got my own and went back to my friend to give her borrowed violin back. And we could actually play together! It is SO FUN! And my violin is perfect!

Yes, the name has a good reputation. If you like it and the price is competitive then buy it.

I am also thinking of buying a violin, and I have no idea how much to expect to spend for a good one. My current violin was around $300 (used, with a case and a crappy bow) but I would like a better sounding one, one that I can play for a long time (especially as I am thinking about going to university for a degree in music). There is only one music store where I live and no luthiers, but I may get a chance to look at some violins in another city in a couple of weeks. What should I look for besides a sound that I like, and what kind of price should I expect?

It depends on your budget of course. I am convinced that Gligas are unbeatable below about $4000 but to be fair I haven`t heard some of the big Chinese names such as Scott Cao since we can`t get those over here.

I bought my violin off of Ebay. My teacher says it is poorly made but another person says it has a good tone.

So really E-bay doesn`t mean you are getting something bad, it just means you are rolling the dice.

i went to a local music store and asked them where to go for very nice violins. they recommended a couple places and they both had VERY nice violins for very good prices. maybe just check your phone book for music stores in the area that could help.
