Hi!
I`ve browsed these forums for a little while, and I realized the other day that i can answer any question that`s been asked on here thus far. I`m 14 and have played the violin for 6 years, play in my All-County Orchestra, play in my city`s Youth Orchestra, and would`ve played in the All-State but i missed the audition by a day
.

If anyone has any questions about anything pertaining to the violin, i`d love to answer them. Just email me at CounterStryker@aol.com, or you can IM me (AIM= CounterStryker)
Feel free to ask anything, from strings to materials to prices to music!!!!

do you know where I can get some easy SOLO violin pieces? I started about a month ago and I can play most everything in 1st position (pitiful, I know)... I`d also like to find a chart that would tell me the fingering for all the positions. any help would be greatly appreciated!

Okay, one reply at a time.

Laura: I`d recommend getting a Suzuki Violin School book, that`s the best way i could recommend of finding good sheet music. As to fingering charts, heres the scoop:

3rd position is the third finger, open string up, the 1st finger of the next string, and the 2nd finger of the next string.

5th position is the exact same fingerings as the string higher than the string u play on.

7th position is 3rd position one string up.

Anonymous: According to MENC, at the edge of the fingerboard, the height on an e-string is 1/8 inch, while on the G-string it`s 3/16 inch. I`ve never heard of a standard for the d and a strings, but i believe they are the same as the e-string.

Can you tell me if there`s any chemical reaction with gold and {aluminum, silver, pyrite, copper, steel}?

To Mara -

5 assorted facts about Violins:

Violin design has been virtually unchanged for over 350 years.

A 350 year old violin is going to cost a lot.

Fortunately you can get new ones too, that sound nearly as good and cost a lot less.

Violins are used in virtually every style of western music yet devised, so you`ll never be short of new material to learn.

Hundreds of thousands of new violins are made every year. Where do they all go?

Umm...nevermind about the chemical reactions. I guess I won`t hang around long enough for that to happen.
I did post a question here a while ago about bridge height. It read something like this: How far should gut core strings be from the fingerboard where the fingerboard starts?
