It's not all been said...been said and done...
I've never slept in Satan's bed
Although I must admit...still visits my place
Uninvited as you know he don't wait
Good song, yes... It's good, but lyrically compared to mental masterminds such as Tool or pink floyd it sinks deep into it's pits of repatition and nasel vocal stylings. Okay, this is all just opinion, but here... here's an example.....
With my feet upon the ground I move myself between the sounds and open wide to suck it in. I feel it move across my skin.
Now, lyrically, they are both amazing. But when you want to listen to something that will 'drill' into your very essence, only there is no doubt in my mind that Tool wins.
As for pink floyd, they were okay musicians, but it's not talent of instruments that makes them amazing, it's the songwriting and words behind it. For example, song like echoes for the album 'meddle', or Shine on you crazy diamond from 'wish you were here'. Comparing them to the beattles is not totally incorrect, but they took their sound to a degree the beatles only wish they could have, and they TRIED with their OWN solo projects after they broke up, but it never amounted. Pearl Jam rocks. I love them, but as for originality, they are lacking, thats not HIS voice, thats an imitiation (and don't even say that eddie started that trend, because we both know he did'nt). As for Maynard's voice, beautiful, sweet, haunting at times, and TOTALLY original.
and again, it's all opinion.

This is random.
I just like Tool because they have excellent insturmentals, especially percussion, and like you mentioned, Maynard is an amazing singer. But their lyrics are just...different. They are thoughtful and not all about the same thing as everyone else. Well, actually its pretty hard to understnad what the hell most of them are about. lol. I suggest their 1993 album "Undertow". Thier videos are insane. I just love them.
To me the 3 most original bands are
Tool
Alice in Chains
Sublime
There are of course many others though
Schism off of the album Lateralus (probably one of their most famous tracks)
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=7229303118362202505&q=tool
old "Sober" video from the album Undertow
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-5325106091005363140&q=tool
It just takes a very open-minded person to really understand and like Tool.
Tool has been one of my 2 favorite bands since my brother introduced them to me 3 years ago. Which is messed up because I was a whopping 12 at the time. lol

I hate to get involved but your ignorance is stopping you from enjoying great music. Led Zeppelin did use blues riffs. But nobody accuses them of ripping off delta blues riff or 8 bar blues. Those riffs were used and abused before Zeppelin got their hands on them. The riff's are classics that are still in use by all blue's players. Zeppelin was rock with a little mix of blues, what can you expect from a guitarist who learned banjo first. Don’t say I'm a sheep because I listen to Zeppelin, they are classics. Intentionally not liking bands because they are popular is stupid. If you like the sound, that is all there is too it. The Rolling Stones do have plenty of repetitive music. They have had some trouble reinventing there old sound so many times. Listen to some of the Stones playing with Ry Cooder, it has some amazing slide work. You say that Pearl Jam has great songwriting skills. I implore you to listen to The Beatles. I am sure that you have, as we all have, and you cannot tell me that John and Paul don't write better songs then Pearl Jam. You speak of Pink Floyd. You said that to listen to The Wall and The Dark Side of the Moon. These are there most popular albums; wouldn't that make you the sheep? Listen to their older music, on albums like Atom Heart Mother, Ummagumma, and Piper at the Gates. This shows the depths to their music that were spoken of before. You forget to even mention The Grateful Dead of Eric Clapton. Both have amazing songs. Eric Clapton was in three amazing bands. Cream, Derek and the Dominoes, and Blind Faith. Each band had a distinct sound with amazing songs. Jerry Garcia wrote some classics for the Dead that have truly amazing riffs. Duane Allman wrote phenomenal slide part to accompany Dickey Betts and the Allman Brothers music. You have failed to see the genius of Jimi Hendrix. He was a guitar god, and came of with amazing solos, off the top of his head. Improv has never has as much emotion since Hendrix died. There are countless others who have more genius than Pearl Jam, such as Santana, Marshall Trucker, Cat Stevens, Jeff Beck, Dire Straits, Jefferson Airplane, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and so many others. Please open your ears to other possibilities, and please don’t try and fit bands into certain places. I like all the music I have mentioned, but I don’t pick favorites, there is just no point.
