A Woman`s Place?

Part of research for an essay. Why are we always so seperate from the boys? In a band, women tend to either front it and/or get much more media attention. They also seem to get much more aggravation from the media. Are women not built for rock and roll? Or are we simply being unfairly judged? I play bass and co-front a screamo band (it involves screaming, so it's screamo, apparently.) I do the screaming. To myself and the rest of the band, all male, I fit in just fine, but I've been told by various people that I don't look or act sexy enough, or that I should give up bass, and various other comments. Do you think it's right that a female cannot play an important role, and simply has to be the 'pretty face to sell the record', as someone said to me? That we shouldn't run around and get sweaty on stage in jeans and T-shirts? Do you think it's time to break down the male/female barrier in rock music? Or do you believe a woman shouldn't be so deeply involved in it? I want all thoghts and comments, all arguments, everything is a valid idea.

As long as you can play it doesn't really matter to me. I am sure you encouter many biases. There is a double standard in rock, and I am sorry to say it will most likely continue until a band like yours paves the way.
