Interesting topic here. Probably the band with the most potential of all-time would be Nirvana, but with Cobain killing himself at such a young age we will never know what could have come from such a band. They had achieved things that other bands took twice as long to do. But with the end of nirvana they can`t be the greatest, but had the potential to, so I don`t know. Of bands that played to there fullest or are still playing, the greatest would probably be.

Blue Oyster Cult-that is personal opinion, no one will agree with me, so let`s leave it at that.
Collective Soul-again like some guy said, no one will qualify them as one of the greatest, but they make some of the greatest music for me.

That would be it, and i guess, though personal opinion doesn`t say it, the beatles would have to be on there, even though there not suppose to be, because they started it, but Rush harneshed and tamed it, at least when they got peart, before they were a good band, but peart was what made them the best, he brought the lyrics and the drums. In my opinion Rush has to be the best, maybe even over the beatles when you compare apples with apples.

RUSH`s DRUMMER IS AMAZING

o.k just adding my opinion here.....rush...are alright but hurt my ears if i listen too long, but i don`t mind closer to the hart!

and now i have to add a new man to the greatest band list...jimi hendrix. it seems that he was a solo guitarist because he kicks so much a$$, but he was in "the jimi hendrix experience" for most of his short lived career anyway. i think he is probably the greatest guitarist of all time. when i die and go to heaven i expect to see jimi up there sitting in a big throne!!!!!

long live jimi (god) hendrix. he lives forever in my heart!

I am glad that you think that I have good taste in music. I have loved Rush ever since the first time I heard my dad`s Chronicles CD (note: I am a teenager, so yeah, my dad`s) Peart is the best drummer of all time in my opinion, and one of the best lyrical writers. But, yeah, there is stuff on the drums that Peart can do that other drummers can only dream of doing. He makes me want to be a drummer, though I am a guitar player.

i`m a drummer and a guitar player, and in response to a post that said a 2 year old could play linkin park guitar and drum parts, i can tell you that the drums parts are actually really complex. but yeah, you`re right about the guitar parts, they are very simplistic, mostly due to the fact that they layer their music so much and don`t need a strong guitar basis. i`d have to say led zeppelin as the best because they opened the door for a lot more

Tool is the greatest band i have ever heard. Everyone in that band is incredibly talented and all of their albums are so great. Their live show are incredible as well.

you`ve gotta love jimi, man. i think the whole love for jet is because they sound old-ish. and, yes, tool is one of the greatestestest bands. ever. besides a perfect circle. which reminds me, i bought a dvd that was about tool.. i thought it`d be some live stuff, videos, etc. but NO, it`s some crappy documentary that plays music from some other crappy band. they have like 6 pictures up. 5 of them are maynard, and they keep flashing in the background. god. i was super megal ultra mad.

jet........they sound like ac/dc so much its scary! plus the lead singer dude iis exactly like mick jagger.it`s a ac/dc with a hint of rolling stone = a perfect recipe for a kick a$s band!!!!!!!!
