Well guys, I`d have to say Led Zep and the Beatles are high up there, but I`m devestated that you guys haven`t even mentioned AC/DC yet. Dude! Well maybe i`m just a biased Aussie, but really, think about it;

Well even though he wasn`t a band, Chuck Berry was very influential as were Bill Haley and the Comets. They got rock going. I would say that (not including the Beatles)ACDC, The Rolling Stones, Queen, Led Zepplin, Lynyrd Skynyrd and The Who. Nu-metal and punk don`t qualify as music.

John Bonham blows Neil Peart out of the water IMO. Bonham gets my vote as the best drummer ever.

I`d also like to take this chance to give my votes to The Stone Roses and Big Star. While neither of them are right up there, and nither of them came anywhere near the Beatles in terms of popularity, They are both fantastic bands and would make my top 10 easily. They are both also very influential, Big Star especially, they are arguabally the most infulential `Alternative` band after The Velvet Underground, who are also deserving of a mention as one of the best ever.

i agree with misse drummer for ACDC. They have on the top ten. They are of course repetitive (a journalist once asked Angus Young how did they achieve to procuce so many albums in a so short time, and Angus answered:"In fact we only made one album and we repeated the same stuff after.")BUT they knew they had a winner receipe: killing vocals, although a lot of people find the voice annoying i just love it, catchy guitar riffs, and an apocalyptic lead guitar. Sorry guys, but terms of Rock , Angus Young is on the top with a few. I mean i dont include Chuck Berry cause he`s in another bag completely, though i found he had The Rocker attitude and, well, he invented Rock n Roll, let`s have recognition. In music, it,s really hard to compare the father of one style and his sons, the guys who pursued the style.

ac dc IMO is overrated. All their music is alike they never progressed.

It`s really hard to say if you can classify that into rock music. Of course it` progressive rock, focked up as hell, influenced by jazz and contemporary music, but...Mahavishnu Orchestra are the kings for the progressive branch of rock. The optimises the utilisation of the hot times in rock. They have such a spirit together, it`s crazy, they were just made to play together. Bill Cobbham (dont know how to spell) give it maybe a little bit too hard but that`s one of the things that make a rock band out of them. All the progressive bands after them took influence from them. John McLaughlin rules.

Let`s seperate greatest from `most influential`. I don`t deny the Beatles`s influence on today`s pop music but they are nowhere near the the greatest rock group of all time. Let`s just say they were playing the right music in the right place at the right time. Even if we just talk in terms of British rock, Led Zepp and Queen are bands that make me feel more proud to be British than the bl**dy Beatles. If we`re talking greatest stadium rock band of all time, we have to look to the US...and it`s unquestionably Aerosmith (let`s have no mention of Bonjovi!) I hope this post is controversial enough to provoke some replies.

Guns n Roses put on the best stadium show from 91-93. Their shows lasted over 3 hours which was and still is for the most part unheard of.

scousegit, you mention Led Zep and Queen as bands better then the Beatles with Led Zeppelin you might have an argument, but Queen? no way, their best album (Night at The Opera) was nothing compared to some of the best albums of all time.
