well, Linkin Park uses a violin (i'm pretty sure that's what it is) in their song 'Faint'. Also, several of the Gorillaz songs use violins, and classical instruments. You'll have better luck with hip hop groups and violins - they use more diverse instrument set ups than rock or metal, which use the traditional drums/guitars/bass set up.

Blue Rodeo, great older rock band, insane violinist
a great violin song by Blue Rodeo- Five Days In May. the violin kind of sounds like guitar by ear, so if you want to see the violin, go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lptVi1RIBPQ&feature=related the violin comes in at around 2:40, and ends at about 4:40, the violinist's performance is definately worthwhile to watch!

I've never heard of the Flobots before, so I can't compare the sound, but I know of an amazing band that uses a violin and a cello in a lot of their music. They're called Skillet, and they are a rock band. Go to their Myspace, myspace.com/skilletmusic, and listen to Comatose and Rebirthing. If your not blown away listen to another band called Red, myspace.com/dropofred. They use a LOT of violins, cellos, and Violas. They have just released a second CD, which doesn't use as much violin and the like, so you might want to search out some stuff from their first CD.
