Well, the relevance of defining categories depends on many things. for my roommates I only told, that I'm listening to metal. For my parents too. They don't have any idea, what is the difference between folk metal or death metal. They don't even know they exist. As we can't see UV light, we don't give names to the different frequencies, although some animals can see the difference.
On the other hand, if two person meets, who understand a little about drinks, it is worht to make difference between whisky and whiskey, although, for most of the people it doesn't really matter.
The other thing is, that clustering should always be handled with an appropriate carefulness. If I ask somebody, whether He/She knows Trans Siberien Orchestra, and the answer is no, together with a question about a genre, then I always say "Metal Musical". I don't know if it is the "official" genre, but these words makes me the closest feeling about that music. Describing the style in more detail won't be worth enough to waste words on it.
So, anyway, which song do You suggest me to listen and get addicted to groove metal?
