1.The Beatles, the songs are just as great now as when they came out.
2.Led Zeppelin, the mix of blues & rock is too good to be true. Jimmy Page is the second best guitarist of all time.
3.The Who, my god they`re great.
4.The Grateful Dead, the feel of bluegrass is wonderful and the songs are unforgettable.
5.Bob Dylan, revolutionary lyrics. Love the harmonica.
6.Jimi Hendrix, just listen to one of his songs, just listen to them.
7.The Allman Brothers, fantastic stuff, and Dwayne Allman played the electric guitar version of Layla.
8.Dave Matthews Band, if you take the time to listen to it you`ll find it`s quite complex.
9.Oasis, feels like the Beatles only contemporary, listen to the live version of Don`t Look Back in Anger, you won`t forget it.
10.The Postal Service, fantastic modern music.

Some nice bands, but I reckon my list is pretty damn good.
1. Beatles - Has to be, such great albums, Revolver, Abbey Road, The White Album, perhaps 3 of the top ten greatest albums ever. The Biggest band in the history of the World.
2. Pink Floyd - This band has always been very close to my heart, musically they`re up there with the beatles in my opinion, they have also created some especially memorable albums: Dark side of the moon, Wish you Were here,The wall, Meddle and The Final Cut - Classic rock at it`s best.
3.Bob Dylan - [not technically a band, but others have put in solo artists] For me, Mr Dylan is the Greatest "individual" song writer in History, Dylan`s lyrics always seem to mean so much more than others, he put his very soul into making music. Albums - Desire, Blonde on Blonde, Blood on the Tracks, Highway 61 revisited.
4.The Rolling Stones - Mick Jagger, Keith Richards: What a combination, the successors to the Beatles, they soon were the biggest band in the world, their music has been influential to generations of artists. Albums - Sticky Fingers, Let it Bleed.
5. Queen - Though they never made truly classic albums, they did write some incredible singles, the emotion, passion and genius of Freddie Mercury will live on in the music of Queen forever.
6. The Clash - The greatest of the Punk Bands, they were the intelligent and true side of the punk movement to the Sex Pistols Hype and Hysteria. The Popularity of the band never seems to wane, and more fans discover the power of the punk revolution every day.
7. Johnny Cash - The legend, The Man in Black, perhaps the coolest solo artist ever, after Elvis, some of his music has touched me the most, especially that which captures the darkest moments in life, "I Hung my Head" is in fact my favourite song of all time.
8. David Bowie and the Spiders From Mars - David Bowie is for me, an icon of music, constantly pushing boudries, conquering new ground and creating music that was truly original.
9. The Smiths - Morrissey, what a guy! The Smiths represented the 80s, for me a band that was able to protest, without losing the intelligence in their music.
10. Pixies - Without the Pixies Nirvana wouldn`t have existed, period! The bands of the 90 should all pay homage to this band, they are legends, just unappreciated ones.
Honourable mentions: Those that didn`t quite make it.
Nirvana
The Who
REM
Bob Marley and the Wailers
Pearl Jam
Meat Puppets
Tool
Grateful Dead
Ramones
Led Zeppelin
Rancid

first band i ever heard was Nirvana and became my first favorite band then i liked Pearl Jam, and many other alternative bands, later i started to listen to 80s rock/metal, i got into glam a little with guns n roses, also metal with Metallica, Van Halen, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, then i heard Zeppelin and Deep Purple, and now i like Audioslave and Tool, so i guess my favorite bands are
Nirvana
Pearl Jam
Guns n Roses
Metallica
Van Halen
Judas Priest
Iron Maiden
Led Zeppelin
Deep Purple
Audioslave
Tool
i guess thats 11
some other bands that i like are soundgarden, a perfect circle, of course the Beatles i mean who doesnt, Dio is pretty good, so are many other 80s bands and from the recent bands i like Linkin Park, i guess thats it for the new bands. i pretty much like everything except all those "the" bands and bands like chemical romance and simple plan, those band just really anoy me.
