1. RADIOHEAD ; Purely because of OK Computer, The Bends and the song 2+2=5(if u can get hold of this song get it).
They put meaning in music and back it up with some great guitar solos and sound affects. Genius!
2. OASIS ; Addictive, ages well (Definetly Maybe and WTSMG only)and makes me proud to be british.
3. PRODIGY ; SMBU, Breathe, Firestarter, Poisen and No Good (Start the Dance) are classics. If you like fast, moveable music, look here! Forget Fatboy Slim and Basement Jax.
4. THE SMITHS ; Hardly anyone talks about this magnificent band. Just think for a second I was born in 89. How the hell would I know them. They created music with proper taste and depth. Just listen to "There is A Light That Never Goes Out".
5. Sex Pistols ; Just before going out and kicking bum is the best time to listen to this crew of murdering, drug abusive, funny, train high-jacking, queen cussing pigs.
6. Gun`s `n` Roses ; Not all their songs are good but at least half are. Slash brings the house down with his clever guitar solos and long hair. Classic rock and roll on a plate.
7. Franz Ferdinand ; The new era of british rock. Cool, Classy and anyone can like them.
8. Joy Division ; Purely because of Love Will Tear Us Apart and Transmission. Ian Curtis (Lead Singer) died because of the music he was playing. Just like Kurt Kurbain.
9. Madness ; Fun ladish behaviour which will always cheer you up when listened to.
10. BITS AND BOBS I HAVEN`t mentioned ; Nirvana, Killers, Suede, Chemical Brothers, Blur, Muse and others

OK. where do i start. firstly i read everybodies list and love the contrast in tastes of music that all contributed to the forum. what ...... get on with my list. fine.

this list is of MY top 10 fave bands so dont say wheres led zep or maiden or hendrix. i love all those guys music and loads more but sadly those formentioned dont make it to MY top 10.

1) Foo Fighters: These guys introduced to me guitar music and i have never looked back. Since hearing "Monkey Wrench" i knew that i belonged to the genre of rock/indie/acoustic, basically, anything guitar. The Foos ARE my fave band of all time. As time has progressed so has the ability to write songs that stay in the mind forever from "Breakout" to "Low". If one person was to benefit from the untimely death of Kurt Cobain, then look no further than Dave Grohl as he has done better post Nirvana showing his ability to not only bang a drum at an un-human like speed but also to prove his worth as a frontman and boy has he done that.

2) Queens Of The Stone Age: Oh My God! From the killer chords to the subtle innuendo in the lyrics this band has that edge above many in the same genre. Even with the ever changing line up (hope they dont go G`n`R, a bucket for a hat, what is that about) they give the fans somethin different with each album but keep it so raw and alive that you will come back for more.

3) Placebo: Here is a band that in a time were the music was so cheepy chirpy defied the odds and went with their hearts to do what they wanted to do. From the homo-erotic sound of "Nancy Boy" to the portrayal of life staying still in "English Summer Rain"
here is a band that are full of beauty and and they have the wordsmith to entice you into loving this band.

4) Greenday: They read the punk rulebook then ripped it apart and re-wrote it, they then read what they had written and said hey, lets write a sequel. When they went overground they got slated by "the fans" but a true fan sticks by a band. I only discovered Greenday when watching tv and "Warning" came on and i couldn`t believe how great that song sounded to me. I then bought the albums "Warning" and "Dookie" that weekend and couldn`t believe a band actually had the ability to say what i was feeling. They dared to say what was on their mind and question taboo subjects in their lyrics eg. dont think i`ve ever heard another song with the word "masturbation" sang so clearly. Oh yeah. Great live. Can`t get hold of the unplugged cd tho.

5) Muse: "Plug In Baby", "Muscle Museum", "New Born", "Hysteria". WOW. Matt Bellamy, one man - multiple abilities. From that first solo on "Plug In Baby" to the heart felt mindf*ck in the lyrics of "Hysteria" he is one guy who knows how to please the people, the media and most importantly, himself.

6) Stereophonics: Foo Fighters aside, the first band i loved. The sole reason i withstood hard skin on the tips of my fingers, blistered fingers and hours of frustration learnin chords on the guitar. "Thousand Trees" on the first album lured me in, and "Just Looking" provided the bait on the hook and "Vegas 2 Times" was the bite. It took three albums but they`ve got me for good now.

7) White Stripes: Brother/Sister, Ex Husband/Wife. Whatever is helping this detroit duo write lyrics like this keep it comin. From unknown (use the term loosely) songs such as "Cannon" and "Astro" to "You`re Pretty Good Looking (For A Girl)" on "De Stijl" and where do i even start with "White Blood Cells". "Fell In Love With A Girl", "Little Room" and "We`re Going To Be Friends". The writing on this album is more focused than on earlier albums which gives it greater depth into the heart and mind of Jack White. Then comes the critically acclaimed album "Elephant". Every song on that album could have ben released as a single due to sheer brilliance and thought gone in to the lyrics, the music and production of that album.

8) Kings Of Leon: Three brothers and a cousin from a Christian background form a band. The brothers father was a preacher and they travelled as youngsters around the country with him in the back of a van. Oh dear what have we let ourselves into. I`ll tell you. Songs about everythin they were told not to do by their father. Usin `n` abusin women, drinkin, smokin, and takin drugs. And most of all, SERIOUS rock n roll. these guys are here for the long run so like them or not, this isn`t the last time you`ll hear from the Followill family.

9) Feeder: The variation that this band has is phenomenal. They release "Echo Park" that is so summery it is unbelieveable but with lyrics in it that imply self loathing and underage alcoholism. Then after the death of a friend and band mate they go on to write another great album that is "Comfort In Sound". The album title says it all. They are grieving the only way they know how, by writing such intense lyrics that make you feel like you knew Jon Lee himself. R.I.P Jon.

10) Athlete: The first time i heard this band i though twell that was a waste of £6, but now they are my 10th top fave band. i got teirfirst albums months after its release due to the experience of seeing them live then a song came on th radio on my way home from school. It was "Beautiful" but nobody knew what it was. I was walking around for weeks singin the chorus to this song as it was amazing and i went into a record shop and what was playin as i went in. Thats rite. So i rush to the ounter to ask what cd is goin out over the shop and its Athlete but i couldn`t believe it at first as i thought i didn`t like them. So i stood and listened to a few more tracks and then walked out the shop with the album in hand.

Well thanks for sittin and readin my waffle, thats if u have of course. if u did thanx and i hope to see ur list pinned up soon if u dont already have 1. go get urself a drink, u deserve it if uve read al that.

cya

btw i dont mean to cause sh*t but i dont like metallica, ican see their appeal but its not me. evry1 els in this forum seems to like them. sorry.

bye
