well in these days id deffinately say THE MARS VOLTA is my personal favorite of all time but to argue against Jimi Hendrix, Led Zepp, and so on is just stupid im only 15 so THE MARS VOLTA is the Led Zepplin to me they remind me of Led Zepplin a lot so yea just stating my opinion

I`m glad that Led Zeppelin made it in almost everybody`s list, they are one of my faves, also, the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, The Who, AC/DC.

But you guys are missing two AMAZING bands!

Lynyrd Skynyrd: Hasn`t anyone heard freebird? That has one of the best solos ever! Although they do do some "southern" rock, most of their music is awesome!

CCR: (Creedence Clearwater Revival): Not only did they write the song that is in every vietnam movie (Fortunate son), they had tons of hits, too! My personal faves: Susie Q, Traveling Band.

Well Im an old fart and I break it down into two sets, pre and post grunge. I listen to the clasic rock and hard rock stations about the same amount of time (depending on my mood)

Pre grunge it would have to be
1 Beatles - Just too many reasons to put them on top
2 Rolling Stones - just for living so long...LOL
3 The Who - Major talent and longevity
4 Aerosmith - ups and downs but still going strong
5 Alice Cooper - best stage show hands down
6 Yes - if lord of the rings had an official band this would be the one
7 Pink floyd - pure lyrical genius
8 Rush - amazing that three guys can make that much sound all at once
9 Led Zeppelin - love to listen to them but they sucked live and most of their hits were ripped off from black blues artists But I like them
10 Black Sabbath - grandfathers of all modern metal

Hell, even Trivium, a fairly new band, with members all in their late teens early 20`s blow most of the bands you have listed away. Learn what good music is before you open your mouth
