Im in tenth grade and have been playing for 6yrs. No one ever taught me how not to use prsessure and i was doing alright in terms of tone and range, but i couldn`t play more than 2 lines w/o getting tired. Last year I played a level 5 flute sonata for nyssma, and it killed me. The judge gave me a 97%, but my end sucked. At the beginning of tenth grade year I started to try and use "no pressure." It took me about 3 months to work my range back up to a g above the staff and i practiced about an hour every night from jan to feb and was slurring up to high c and even hit a high e! However, eversince using "no pressure," my tone and range have been cut back. I have been going over three months w/o pressure now and want to play the 2nd and 3rd movements of haydn. my range right now is like a, but if i havent practiced seriously for like a month and a half. Also, since using no press., i noticed the mouth piece has shifted to the left, to align with my teeth, where as I used to play dead center. everytime i practice now it seems like im not getting much better, and what angers me is the kid next to me in wind ens hit high c`s ok even though he nvr practices that much. I wanna know if im headed in the right direction w/o press, is the off center aperture ok,how much i should be practicing, and should I go for haydn or not.

-thx bobby
