Since 5th grade ive been playing clarinet. I wasnt able to be in band my freshman or sophmore year but Im going to be in band next year( ill be a junior)and i really want to be in Jazz band. I love Jazz. But ive heard people say that jazz and clarinets dont go together. The jazz band in my school dosent have any clarinets either. but Im not sure if they allow it or not. i dont know i guess my question is should i try to be in jazz band or no.

Believe it or not, the first jazz bands had only clarinets and not saxophones.
My suggestion is learn saxophone. There are occasionally songs that require clarinets, and you can ask your director to selct one or two of those. You could also solo on clarinet in songs.
I`ve also heard of jazz bands where random instruments will replace common jazz instruments because of lack of players.
At the very least, talk to the director and see what he says.

Some schools may have saxophones available for you to play, especially if you do tenor or bari. Tenor may be easier for you since it is in the same key.

I don`t know who told you clarinet and jazz don`tmix but that is not true. One can play all styles of music on a clarinet. Do not let anyone tell you different.
