i`m a college student playing principal in my college orchestra, and i am about to purchase a new flute. so far i have narrowed my choices down to these two: a gemeinhardt KGM limited and a Pearl 765 RB-Coda

i`ve used a gemeinhardt 3SB since high school, and i loved the warmth and the richness it produces, even in the higher registers.

the pearl was highly recommended by a friend, however, i`ve never actually heard one before, but i do know that pearls are of excellent quality.

now the gemeinhardt KGM, well, let`s just say that i like the idea of playing on an H1 headjoint. I`m interested in thicker tubing.......

anyway, i would like some input before i make my final decision....

I have owned the KGM, and a pearl 761, "the model before the 765." I also recently tried the 665 pearl, and the 765 recently. If you got money to burn get the 765, but if you are like me and want the same sound but better price get the 665. The KGM is nice but does not have the smooth more resonate tone of the pearl. The 665 is silver headjoint "a very good one!" and a thick silver plated nickel silver "not brass" body and foot. Do not believe anyone who states that just because a flute is not solid silver it is not professional! The headjoint and overall construction make it professional. Remember Gemeinhardt may make a solid silver flute and sell it for 2000, but you could buy a powell with a silver headjoint and silver plate body for even more and it will sound better, play better, and would be picked hands down over the gemeinhardt by a pro. But like I said you got money to burn deffinately get the PEARL!!!!765

Ooops almost forgot, the pearl has a thicker tubing also, feels heavier in the hands, read their web site for info. The headjoint pearl makes is just as good as the h1
