I am a grade 6 Clarinet player and I am looking to start a new instrument, I want to play an instrument that is in the woodwind family but I don`t know what to start!!! I have considered other types of clarinets but am not really interested. I think a double reeded instrument would be good. I have been told that the Bassoon has fingerings similar to the clarinet, is this true? And if so is it worth looking into?

I have never played a double reeded instrument, but my friend does. I think you should probalby play an oboe becuase it gets waaay better music than a basoon. If you don`t have your heart set on a double reed instrument, I would probably advise you to play some type of saxophone. If youre really good and love competition, play alto. If you like jazz, play tenor. If you just wanna get by, play bari or soprano. But I think double reeds are awesome too, but I was told that they are extremeley hard to learn and even harder ot play solos with, but good luck!

Yah, the oboe is pretty darn hard if you don`t set your mind to it and give it all you`ve got. Bassoon does have a few similar fingerings but not enough to help you probably. Plus the bassoon is pretty costy, you might wanna look into that. The oboe is expensive as well.

Have you thought of flute? It isn`t that hard, just the beginning will be tough just a bit changing from clarinet, but it`s relatively inexpensive and it is very popular so you would get help easily, as bassoons and oboe can be hard to find help.
