Hi,
I used to play the flute and yes it can play more than one octave, if i can remember properly it can play three octaves. To play the other octave notes you need to know the right fingerings, and the embrasure will probably need to change aswell.
If you don`t know the fingerings for the other octaves, then check this site out, it is a PDF file so you need Adobe to read it. http://www.edgewatereagleband.com/chromaticfingeringcharts.pdf c
Good Luck

If you`re a very experienced flutist, it is possible to play three and a half octaves. However, the top 6 notes or so are hardly ever used, so it`s not absolutely necessary that they are learned. That register is almost always reserved for the piccolo, which is one octave up from the flute.

there are three octaves on a flute but as a begginner, you would only probably go up to a high b-flat
don`t worry
