My daughter just got a new clarinett.. and I played the clarinett about 10 yrs ago.. I remember my band director telling us to start out on different reeds then what was provided because for begginers they were easier to use.. but I dont remember if a 2 is harder or softer then a 3.. can anyone help me so that I can get my daughter started on the right foot? thanks so much..

The best Clarinet reed to start with would be a 2 or 2 1/2. with 1. being to softest and easiest, and 4. to 4 1/2 being the hardest (proffesional).

It all depends. Some students start as low as 1 1/2 working their way up as their facial muscles develope. To play the upper registers a number 3 would be your bare minimum.
