I`m having a lot of trouble with my tone and getting good sound. I always have and it may have to do with the fact that I pretty much taught myself. There`s nothing wrong with my sax it`s just me. My sound is very airy, like I have a leak, but I don`t. I suppose my reed isn`t vibrating properly, but it`s only a 3! I have a lot of trouble with hitting all the notes properly, they usually take half a second to sound like a note AND THAT`S TOO LONG! I need help as soon as possible because I have an audition for a jazz combo soon.

I don,t know how helpful I can be cos I only been playing 2 months myself but heyho.A level 3 reed is way to high,my sax came with a 2! and I struggled for a week thinking I will never get this.I went to my music shop and got some tips.They sent me away with a 1.5 ! what a revelation,not having to struggle to blow a tune.I go back to my 2 every now and then and sound is richer ! but to start with get back to basics and try a 1.5 reed ,you won,t be sorry.Try palying with the mouthpiece further in or out of your mouth ,the sound will differ.
