I play Eb alto saxophone and flute. I started off with saxophone first but then wanted to go further in the woodwind area, and I found it easier to adjust my embrochure for flute. I imagine it would be harder the other way... I think you should play one first, until you get down with that and take up the other later. It`s always nice to have a backup and it also depends on the sound you want;
sax: great for jazz
flute: great for classical and soothing music.

It depends on what you want to do. You play sax now, right? If you enjoy jazz band or ever think you will be in jazz band, start learning flute. It will help you immensely. It`s a personal preference, though. If I could, I`d drop my saxophone and play a contra clarinet in band.

Do what you feel is right.

If you can, play both!! If you can`t, consider the cons and pros. The flute has a sweet, soothing sound and is easy to carry around (hey, a it rhymes!). The sax is louder and larger. It too can play sweetly but only with lots of air and vibrato. It is much larger too. The sax is probably easier to learn, but so is the flute once you`ve got the correct embouchure. The sax is a reed instrument; the flute isn`t. And consider where you`re going to perform and what you want to perform. A lot of decision making, I know; if you can play both I would consider that also. That way, you can decide which you like better once you`re really good.

The sax is way better. I know that because I play the sax. It is easier than the flute. But if you are going for a challenge do the flute. I suggest the sax though.
