What is the best sax brand name? Is it Yamaha or Selmer? What are the best models from these brands?

actualy, all saxes are the same, look at them. some have diffrent colors and styles, but they are all saxophones. they all sound the same and all the names are, are diffrent things engraved on the bell. just buy a cheap one off ebay, its just as good as a multi million doller selmer. metal is metal and the way the sax is designed the metal wont effect the sound at all. keywork, may be diffrent but all of that can be adjusted with a screw driver and a hammer. so just find somthing cheap off ebay or somthing, brand names dont matter at all.

Ok in response to the last post ^, no offense or anything but you are horribly mistaken. The type of sax you buy can differ greatly with another one. For example, a Selmer Mark IV will sound much better than a $200 sax you purchase off ebay. Though saxes do sound different according to the player, every sax has just a little bit of a different sound if you were to really listen closely.

yes you are totally correct. the type of saxophone does very often effect the quality of sound and other things. i bought a yamahah yas-23, and its pretty good. i also had a conn sax from the 50`s, but it was a split-bell, so it was hard to play. recently, i purchaced a Hollywood Winds sax and its amazing. The company changed names from Unison, so if you see any of those, they`re the same thing as the one i got. if anyone wants to get an inexpensive yet great sax, buy one of these.
