Hi...

My kids want to play the trumpet and the alto sax. My experience is with piano & drums but I think they`re just a bit too young... the oldest (wants to play trumpet) is 7 and the younger (the alto sax one) is 6. Right now I`m teaching them to play the piano instead. But at what ages will they be ready for these two instruments? I have no idea. Also, would we get smaller versions like they do with violins (1/2 size or something) when they`re small or do kids start with the full-sized instruments like on piano or drums? Thanks!

NO way, I started Playing Piano and Violin at 6 or 7 and am now 26.
So, they can easily do 2 instruments.

I started playing alto sax in 4th grade when it was offered in school and of corse still play. Hell, I went to college for it.

So I say if they want to do two and they are intrested whats the hurt.
You can easliy find a cheap alto sax on Ebay or Amazon (used).
As a begginer they dont really need anything expensive just something that can get used to and perhaps later on if they love it well thats a different story.

Oh, Also it would be full size..I dont think their is a small size for the sax and Trump..
I remember starting playing violin I started so young I started on a violin that was made out of cordboard and them moved to the bigger violins..

I think about fourth grade would be a good time to start them. Start them on beginner instruments because you don`t want to start them on too advanced an instrument. They don`t make smaller versions of trumpets or saxes.
