Hi,

I don`t play either, but I was wondering why it is that clarinets are considered the violins of regular band? I don`t think they sound anything alike...In some scores I have, the oboe and/or flute more often than not have the same parts as violin. The clarinets don`t seem to hardly ever have the same parts as the violins as far as I can see. Please tell me why this is so if you can. I have always been very curious about this. Thanks if you can

Well i have heard that instruments such as violin, trumpet, sax, clari, and oboe are the closest ones to the human voice. So since they are close to the human voice they all have the same "sound" if you get what i am saying. So that is what prolly makes clarinets so close to the violins. Also, the clarinet has a very very very big range, as does the violin. Hope this helps.

ok.....don`t get me wrong...i don`t mean that anything`s wrong with the clarinet. i was just wondering why the clarinets are called the "violins" of the band. i play oboe....and so....i was just asking for an oppinion on this.

I think that it might be because the violin is the most popular string and the clarinet is the most popular woodwind
