I was looking for a used oboe and I see on ebay that there are a lot of Selmer and Bundy plastic oboes. I used to play a Linton oboe in high school and it sucked pretty bad. So are there any oboes that you would tell me to stay away from? I`m thinking about buying a selmer oboe because I think it looks pretty good, but please tell me if i am wrong!

It would probably be easier to mention the good makes of Oboes, although living in England I do not know much about American Oboes, anyway here`s my list:
Howarth (English) Loree, Rigotat, Marigaux, Patricola (French) Kreul, Puchner (German) Yamaha (Japan) Try and get advice from a proffesional, otherwise you may end up paying too much for a very average instrument- Good Luck

in my opinion selmer is a pretty good oboe. i have a selmer and i`ve been playing it about 4 years. asking your director (if he knows anything about oboes) would probably be a good idea.
And.....even though I really know.....someone keeps saying that Nora Post (norapost.com) is good.
lots o` luck!!!

I have an opportunity to buy a Linton wood oboe. Can anyone out there tell me about this brand of wooden oboe? Has anyone played one before?

hey
i played a linton oboe (plastic though)it`s the school`s oboe though so they don`t care. i played it b/c my oboe was in the shop. it sounded like it had an excelent tone and volume, though a bit bright, but it isn`t in the best repair. if it was fixed a bit i think it would be awesome. well, dunno how much that helps, good luck!
