well yeah brands do matter, but it mainly depends on quality, u could get a new flute and an old flute and they could play the same cause the manufacturers didnt make the new one good or sumthin like that, but in general i like geimenhardt or armstrong

Those are the best high-school level brands, the best ones most people can afford.

There is no number one best brand. Different people will recommend different brands.

I play a Gemeinhardt and I love it. But if you talk to a professional flautist, chances are you won`t even recognize the brand they will be playing.

I think that a few brands are pretty good. Pearls are very nice but are really expensive, Yamahas are nice with good sound But I personally love Armstrongs. I have owned mine for 7 years and it is the still in really good shape. Plus the sound and response is wonderful. Now I want to buy a new one but keep the old one as a marching flute. Bad things happen in marching band...and the new will be an Armstrong!

Symphony flutes are new, but they`re pretty good, although the retail price is about 500 dollars.
try here, though, for a cheap, brand new, one!
try this one, it looks totally awesome and is pretty cheap! its also new!

To say that the is no one "Best Flute" maker is like saying there is no best auto maker. I am speaking in terms of best overall value. Everyone who plays all say go with Yamaha for sound quality and price. Armstrong is best for durability which is great for beginners.

Also........try to stay away from generic brands stay close to good flutes, flutes that have been around for a while like.....Armstrong, Emerson, Gemeinhardt, Jupiter, Selmer, Yamaha, Haynes, Pearl.....these are all really good brands stick with these and you shant go wrong, also try flutes before you buy them, I went through www.fluteworld.com and tried Eight flutes before I found my diMedici 1011RBES...Good Luck
