I have trouble doing trills. Whenever I try to do it, my left hand fingers just freeze and wouldn`t move. It`s really frustrating.... and sometimes and I can do trills and sometimes I cant. When I just do trills, without playing it as a part of the music, I can do it. But when I try to play it with other notes and try to play it at the right rhythm, I can`t do trills...... any suggestions on how to practice trills so that I can play it well anytime that I want to play it??

First, stop worrying so much. I sometimes get the same problem with my clarinet if I`m really terrified of a passage in a piece, my fingers will stop and refuse to move.
For helping with trills, try slowing the rhythm down to half speed or even less, and play the trill just as semiquavers. Then once you`ve got it under your fingers you can work up to speed and your brain won`t get confused and freeze your hand up.
But the main think, I think is just to stop worrying about it so much.

Aha! so I see, the violin. And i would presume that u might be having problems with yr finger 3 and 4( the weakest fingers)..Tricky tricky! Ok, this is what I`ll recommend:
1. do this finger ex. as a warmup on a flat and hard surface. like a table or just yr finger board will do.
Hold onto finger3(stick it to the table), and tap yr finger4 on the table. Remember, must hold onto yr finger3 when tapping. Tap it as consistently as u can.Curve those fingers and do on the tip. When consistent enough, do on the violin.
2. There`s a trick to doing trill(don`t use this method once yr technically stronger, caz it`s like cheating). Register/listen only to the weaker finger`s note. IE: If yr trilling A and B note with fingers 3 abd 4, then, (move yr fingers just like ex.1, sticking yr finger3 on the fingerboard, and don`t lift it up), and pretend that u only want the B note, and yr only hearing that. So, it`ll sound like BBBBBBBBBB to u, and not BABABa etc. But in fact yr doing BABABA on the violin. Get it? Caz the mind makes the already weak fingers even clumsier by asking it to switch between 2 notes. So instead of doing that, use yr internal ear to coax yr brain, as if making the fingers play 1 same note all the time. Hope U understand what I`m trying to put across. Thank U

My band teacher always says,
"Stop it! Stop it you silly students!" of course he is just joking, but he sounds like Aronald Swerchinator(pardon the spelling). it gets us to laugh and we relax and play it fine, except for a few giggles.
