Which fingers should play C F#

G A B C F# G

3 4 1 ? ? 3

This awkward interval crops up all over the place.

Do u mean that C F# and G has to be played together as a chord...caz if that`s the case, then I would use 1 on F# and 2 for both C and G across the fingerboard on position 3.
Or 2 on F#, and 3 on C and G if position 1.

Sorry my question isn`t clear.

On violin to play this riff fast and legato what fingering would you use?

D_______ A____ D____

D E F# G A B C F# G

The two F#s are the same note.

Sorry, I still don`t get u. U mean like play them one by one but legato, or play as chord and legato? And what is the D-----A-----D? Maybe u ought to describe it this way...ie: D open string, A on D string, C# on A string, G B together, etc...But actually can u tell me what izzit yr playing? Then I can refer to the score, and can u tell me what bar yr talking abt? Very sorry for the trouble.

Sorry, blame it on my stupidity. I didn`t realise the D_______A______D means the string...Ha! What an idiot I am...Okie, so my recommendation is:

D_______ A____ D____

D E F# G A B C F# G
0 1 2 3 4 1 2 2 3
And probably u`ll have some problem joining between C F# since it`s the same finger on two slightly different places and on 2 different strings as well. But pls understand that this has nothing to so with the fingering. Even if y`ve to use the same finger on 2 awkard positions...it is eventually yr bowing that determines how well u can join yr notes. So pls worl more on yr bowing instead. But if u really can`t do legato between these 2 notes...feel free to mail me/post on this thread again. Or simply follow this( replacement fingering) which I really dun recommend, since it doesn`t solve the root of the problem(yr bowing).
D_______ A____ D____

D E F# G A B C F# G
0 2 3 4 5 1(2 3) 3
(place finger 3 to get F# on the D string next to yr finger 2 C note on A string( when I say next, meaning directly underneath and pls close in the gap between the two),and still using finger 3, slide from F# to G. Understand?)

D_______ A____ D____

D E F# G A B C F# G
0 2 3 4 5 1(2 3) 3 Sorry, I made a typal error for the replacement fingering above. Silly me again. I mean
D_______ A____ D____

D E F# G A B C F# G
0 1 2 3 4 1(2 3) 3

It`s in bar 2 of the Trio in Beethoven`s Minuet in G.
Should I place my 2nd finger across the D&A strings for the C note?

Raff

PS. I use the advice you gave on holding down fingers and I`m improving.

Yap...stick to finger 2 , only use the alternative fingering unless u can`t do the original. Or unless it doesn`t make sense. Just mail me again if u encounter any problem , it`s good to know that there`s someone out there who`s working hard. Thank You.

Continued...But pls dun place it over 2 strings. I previously asked u to do that, caz I thought u wanted to slide. Just use 2 on Cnote, and also 2, but `1 step away` on F#. Thank You.
