no offence ya`ll but your missing the point.
it doesnt matter if some person can play 15 instruments really badly, can`t even read music unless someone tells him hes doing it wrong. cuz someoene who can HAVE 15 instrumetns and sometimes plays them doesn`t make them better than someone who has played 1 instrument for 10 years and has got distinctions in everything.

I have studied many Instruments my favorite being the bassoon but I also play the clarinet flute oboe contrabassoon and percussion. The key is you need to learn the basics first sightreading counting and most importantly scales! im sure y`all hate them but if can fluently play scales on any instrument you will do great at that instrument (as long as you have the love and emotion for it)

Right on, Eric! I can play every orchestral instrument, to one extent or another. However, I`m really good at piano, clarinet and french horn. But I`m really REALLY good at piano and clarinet. And umm...no Bekah. Just because you can play scales on an instrument does not mean you`ll be good at an instrument. You can get good at playing scales through practicing. Being able to sightread is what distinguishes the good musicians from the poor musicians. For the past 6 years, I`ve done poorly in District auditions, however, I know I`m better than everyone else because I always have the highest sightreading scores. Get it straight.

Another thing...that`s great if you can play scales and etudes and stuff...but something my symphony`s conductor said, in which I believe whole-heartedly, is this: "I would rather you guys play all of the notes and rhythms wrong, but play with real feeling and MAKE REAL MUSIC than for you to play all the notes, rhythms, dynamics and all other markings correctly, but play with no feeling." The only other thing I can say is that if you don`t believe in that, you`re not a real musician, but a cold-hearted machine. Peace.

You are right..but I don`t have all those instruments.. I only have a violin, a Yamaha keyboard, a guitar and a recorder. I train myself on those to play all the others.

I agree you do need feeling when you play but that feeling is worthless without the real function of scales and really knowing your instruments inside and out. I have had many auditions and the saying is true practice makes perfect and loving it is what makes it fun. So if you ever want anyone to actually listen to you and enjoy it I suggest you practice
