Hey, im doing grade 6 flute next week and i have done grade 5 piano. i dont think that playing lots of instruments would be that great, because you could not feel for all of them. With music it is about your love of playing that instrument that hugely matters. You can be very good technically, but if you do not feel the music then you have nothing, and i seriously admire people for being so obviously talented and stuff...

Playing multiple instruments hasn`t diminished my passion for any of them. It has actually enhanced my enjoyment and understanding of music.

I don`t think it really matters if you`ve played this instrument at one time, didn`t like it and switched to that instrument. And it also doesn`t count if you can`t play them all well. There is no way that you can play clarinet, sax, trumpet, and oboe all as good as eachother b/c each has a different embouchure and each diff. embousure VERY MUCH contradicts the others. I myself play the oboe, melodica, recorder, fife and piano/keyboard, along with some other (non-wind) instruments. but those don`t really matter about the jaw/mouth/lip setting as the oboe. It`s just about impossible and pretty much a waste of time to play a bunch of different woodwind instruments mixed with some brass. No offense....but yeah

Hmm, let`s see...
Most of these you`ve never heard before, because they`re instruments I made myself.

my creations:

alumitar
ubertar
invisitar
cellotar
viotar
mechanical monk
the chariot
electric saron
m`birangi
microtonal guitar
crow sax

traditional instruments;

guitar
sitar
oud
rebab
saron
bonang

My main instrument is the alumitar. It`s kind of like an electric cello, except it`s tuned in fourths and has ten strings, so it has the whole range of a piano.

A rebab is a two stringed bowed instrument with a kind of scratchy, buzzy sound. Mine`s from Egypt. It`s too bad if people see this as a competition-- to me it`s just interesting to see what everybody plays. Was that "up yours" directed at me? If so, why? Because of the instruments I play?

First off, I just want to say that all of you who can play multiple instruments deserve major props! You are insanely talented and keep up the good work.
Secondly, it`s my opinion that even though there are lots of people who can play tons of instruments, those who play only one or two veryveryvery well should also be recognized. Look at it this way: The more instruments you play, the more you have to divide your practice time between them all. (which is why I think school should be cancelled for all musicians so they could just practice all day!! lol, just kidding)

PS: I play piano, clarinet, flute, recorder, mallets, and a little bit of guitar.
