Hi I am just learning the Bari sax and I can`t get the low "g" to sound right. My teacher said to move the mouthpiece in and out but it only made it worse. Do you have any suggestoins?

huh, a low g... arent there only two??? Isnt A the lowest note on it?? I play bari sax and alto sax and the fingering is exactly the same...accept for the extra note, low A
Do you find the bari buzzes alot more than the alto??

The low g as you call it on the bari has to be thought of as a low Bb on the tenor sax.

Drop your jaw, think toooooe, remain lose but firm in the embouchure, and relax your air way.

It will eventually come out...also make sure that you can hear the note in your head before playing it. If you don`t know what it is to sound like ask your teacher to play it on the piano for you.

I play tenor sax but teach bari sax to beginner band students so I know how difficult it is to get the notes out.

you`re not talkin about G in staff, are you?!!! bari sax can only go down to A below staff, unless you stick your foot in the bell, or you drop your jaw enough.

Emily,

Do what Sharon suggested for your embouchure. Relax your embouchure a bit, but not too much that you lose your seal. Pushing the mouthpiece in and out is how you adjust your tuning. If you`re sharp, pull it out, and if you`re flat, push it in.

Happy playing!

well, i play bassoon, and getting low notes kinda sucks b/c they don`t respond as quickly as i want them to. just drop your jaw a bit. on the bassoon i try to blow as little air as i can so it doesn`t overblow, but since the sax is a single reed with an octave key (right) i`m guessing you sohuld be blowing pretty hard to get that note.

I am playing bari for the first time for marching and i have been trying to figure out how to play that too! (used to play alto) I have played the low G before, don`t ask me how i did it, but i did. At least my tuner said i did. The only thing is, now anything below a low D, my tuner will not tune! That stupid note broke my tuner!!!!! oh well, i guess i`ll just ask the director about it.
