I`m wondering if any of you Sax players would be kind enough to advise me please .......
I`ve been playing the clarinet for just over a year now and I`m doing fine but I`m thinking about trying the sax too.
I`m a mature student (over 40 !!) fairly small in stature and have small fingers - would appreciate any views on which would be the best for me - I know they vary in weight possibly size too ! I think that the smallest and lightest would be best but don`t know which that is !!!!
I`m also wondering .....do they all have the same fingering ????
Are any similar to the clarinet ????
I play alone using backing tracks, so was thinking that the soprano would be the best ????

Hey!! Well my suggestion is probably the alto. I play primarily tenor myself, but alto is small, easy to handle but has a good range. You would probably be able to master the soprano as well, but if you really want something different to clarinet, go all out and play something that at least looks like a real sax

Quite seriously though, alto is a good place to start. They all have the same fingering (apart from altissimo, but that`s way down the track!) so you could start on any and work to another with relative ease.

thats a lie, they dont have the same fingering as a clarinet. i play a selmer as300 with a yanagisawa mouthpiece and a Curved yanagisawa soprano with a dukoff mouthpiece. You should probably start on a alto. That is the easiest range of notes to hit.
