I have read all the arguments on starting with either a sax or trumpet, but i am not musically experienced so i am not sure where to go with this

I listen to jazz such as miles and coltrane and love the soft, slow use of horns and sax, but my problem is i dont always know what I am hearing. I have no musical experience so that is obviously why.

On Miles - `my ship`, is he playing a horn throughout the song? I think it must be because it is a slow steady note (again, im a novice)

A sax is supposed to be fun to play, but when i think `sax` i keep hearing cheesy 80`s pop jazz and i hate that type of saxophone. Can i still play that slow type of jazz with the sax? I dont like saxophone where the musician is all over the place changing notes, i like gentle and soothing!

I dont want to end up playing something where i dont even like the music, so any suggestions?

one thing to add. I might have read that he uses a flugelhorn in `my ship` and that is a mellower sound, but it seems like that is not a very common horn, so that might not be a smart thing to try to learn.
To be honest, i dont like the high pitched horn, is that the standard when people talk about trumpets?

I like a lower softer sound. I want to learn an instrument i can play where I can sulk in depression

Whatever instrument that is at the forefront, i love it!
