I`m in the 8th grade and I just got my piccolo not to long ago. I have problems getting the high notes like high D flat. After that note I can`t get anything. Any tips? Please I would love to hear them.

that is a pretty dodgy note, dont try to belt that note with very tight lips or else it sounds out of tune

I just started piccolo 2. To get high notes to come out better make the whole of ur lip opening as smaill as possible and stick out ur bottom lip just a lil bit. that will help alot

hey im in 8th grade as well and i have been playing the picc 4 almost 5yrs now so its almost natural for the high notes 2 come out with me. i read ur post a few days ago and at first i couldnt figure out how i did it, i just do. after a while though, i figured out that it you raise your eyebrows and straighten up, the sound comes out clearer, i had to pay att. to how i play for the first time in 4yrs to figure this out myself. my lil sis is playing as well and has asked me the same question so i can now help her as well.

Well, I`m in 7th grade and play the flute for the first time and I am borrowing the piccolo from my band teacher and I can only make the notes from around the 1st octave to the second octave F! I can play the G and maybe A and B but I have to change my fingerings to the 3rd octave fingering which means I can only play up to 2nd octave C. It is nearly impossible for me! Any ways?

i play the piccolo, all you have to do is practice and blow really hard, make sure your lips are in the right position too. its hard, but you`ll get it sooner or later.

well, you don`t want to become too tight, but you do need to adjust. i`ve been playing for two years now, and the most important thing is not to be tight, but yet to relax enough so that you`re not over-straining your embouchre for a sound. The key point is the make smaller changes. I`ve come a long way with the help of my teacher. This year, as a freshmen in high school, I got both the only piccolo spot, and First Chair flute, and I`m still holding First Chair. My best friend incidentally is second, and she takes lessons with the same teacher I do. I`ve also placed as the highest freshmen into our local Tri-County Honors Band as second chair, which I`m thrilled with being my first time, and I`ve also gotten the picc spot for that as well (and a solo!!!!!!!!yay!!) So, I`d advise you to get with a teacher if you haven`t already, and keep practicing....act like the energizer bunny. Good luck, and if you have any questions, please email me.
