I just got my oboe today and I bought a reed for it. It cost $10. And when I blow into it, all it does is make an airy sort of sound. Is it me? It is a school instrumet. And I don`t know how old it is, but it looks pretty old. I need help. What should I do? And I need to know te fingerings to try so that I can keep trying, but I`ll be trying the right way. Please help!

first of all, make sure you wet the reed very well. suck on it for a while. then, set you mouth tightly on the reed and blow into your oboe. try postitioning your mouth in different places, play around with the reed. if that doesnt work, you may want to go to your teacher and ask if there could be any way for it to be fixed.Please get back to me and tell me whats going on.
