it enables the bow string to become more corse.there for your notes will be carried through the strings/without it you would be silent/but not to much our your instrument will be a white cake

That person explained it well. Rosin is just dried tree sap. Have you ever gotten a new bow and tried to play on the string without rosin? It sounds like air. Nothing happend unless you press down so hard to break the bowhair. But the rosin is a substance that provides friction and you need friction to make sound, anywhere; even in your very voice....well thats it
