Bassoons vary in price from under 3,000 for a used or begginer to 6,000 for a descent amateur, all the way up to 15,000-20,000 for top of the line professionals. Fox would be my choice because they are known for quality.

I don`t know about a what would be a good brand for the brass band, but you probably couldn`t go wrong with a fox for orchestral performances.

I would advise talking to someone who deals them or someone who bought one to get help. I would [/b not] purchase a bassoon without playing it first.
