Well I`ve been in band since the 3rd grade and I play A LOT of instruments...I play clarinet, flute, piccolo, oboe, and alto sax. All througout middle school I played the flute then the piccolo. Now in high school I chose to go back to oboe and there`s a new director and she thinks it`s good and now I`m starting to think that I should go to flute just for marching season cuz the band REALLY needs flutes, there`s only one but also I wanna do that cuz it`s REALLY REALLY REALLY hard marching with ur oboe and then the thing is it`s embarassing for me having people see me with a different instrument all the time...should I tell my teacher I`m willing to help out and go to flute cuz we need it? or should i stay quiet and stick forever more to the oboe which is my favourite?

You should go to flute for marching band and stick with oboe for concert band. Don`t care about what other people think, that`s there problem! Do what you love. Good luck!!

I`ve heard that it`s dangerous to march or move at all with a doubble-reed instrument. That`s why the oboes at my school go to the percussion section for marching.
