I was just wondering if there was any difference in a wooden and a plastic reed. I know that plastic ones are great for marching with but will they make a good tone in cincert band?

The main allure of plastic reeds are that they are durable. Like you said, they are convenient for marching band. However, stick with wooden reeds for concert band definitely. They provide a much more rich sound.

You should only use plastic reeds on the marching field, and try to avoid that whenever possible (especially if your band competes). In concert band, only use high quality wood reeds, such as Vandoren. They will produce a superior tone quality. All professional players will be able to hear the difference (and hopefully band directors will as well).
