hi all,
i used to play saxophone in my high school days and am interested in playing bass clarinet in my current band. i was wondering if im going to run into any difficulties in the transfer. ive never played a clarinet before. ive always favored the sound of the clarinet over the saxophone... after all the years, its about time that i made the switch.
id like to find out more information before i go out and buy one. thanks!

I play both but i made the transition the other way. You`ll probably have to change your ombuschure and blow a l;ittle harder. the sax is much easier i find.

I actually think clarinet`s much easier, because it`s so much lighter than saxophone. I also made the switch the other way around. It would probably be best for you to start on soprano clarinet if you`re truly interested in achieving real talent on the instrument, but plenty of sax players (especially tenor/bari players) go straight to bass clarinet. As for purchasing one, I have a pretty good idea about brands to try and brands to avoid, what the differences are, where you can find them, and what you can expect to pay (I`m a professional clarinetist). If you want specific help, email me at star85girl@aol.com. I`d be glad to answer any questions you have about buying or playing clarinet.
