I really have been wanting to play the cello for a year or two, but I`ve only had experince playing the clarinet in middle school and piano for a few years. I`m 16.. should I go for it? Is there anyone that started as a beginner at my age?

Yes, there are people starting to play the cello every day, at just about all different ages. I recently went to a recital where a woman in her 50`s or 60`s had just begun. Actually her family was raised & grown, and she had recently been able to retire, so how excellent. Something she always wanted to do. About you ... the World is at your feet! You ARE just getting started. Work hard, it`s not luck, but good luck anyway. Strat Man Dwight w/stategies for musicians young & old

I am 18, and play piano in our schools jazz band, and I`ve just taken up the cello about three days ago. I`ve never played strings before, and it`s an odd experience, especially without frets : ) Don`t worry about it, you`ll do fine

When beginning a fretless stringed instrument, you or your teacher can place thinly cut strips of masking tape on the fretboard to represent fret positions, or the opposite, round stickers where you will actually be placing your fingers. Just for starters. Might as well say it - my 6 year old daughter plays the violin, and uses these little helpers. Also, she doesn`t totally like the symphony but will become a bassist in a rock band someday. No Doubt?! Strat man Dwight
