Hey. I`ve been playing the piano for like 10 years, and I`m thinking of taking up a string instrument. So far I`m thinking of either the viola or cello. Because i want something that`s different.

Can anyone help me? Which one do you think would be better? considering sound and the clefs...

Suggestions please?

Thanks!

Well, I think that Cello would be easier to learn because if you can play the piano then you already know how to read the bass clef. The Viola on the other hand is played in the alto clef, its not very hard to learn to read, but does have a higher sound than the Cello.
It all depends on how much you are willing to learn with which ever instrument you choose. The Cello you would be able to learn faster, just because you don`t need to learn the bass clef.
Hope this helps

I just want to add that occasionally cellos are required to play another clef such as the tenor or alto.
